It’s ‘Sack Schultz’ time — how good are you?

Mark Richt and Paul Johnson discuss their strategy for “Sack Schultz” contest. (AJC)

Hello again. It’s almost time for college football season, and that means it’s almost time for the “Sack Schultz” contest, and that also means it’s almost time for Weekend Predictions, so let me start with an off-the-books wager (not to be confused with an off-the-books attorney hire, because Cobb County, it seems, has cornered the market on those).

Bobby Petrino vs. Todd Grantham: boom.

Now, back to football.

Weekend Predictions returns next week. The “Sack Schultz” contest returns now. You can register beginning Sunday at AJC.com/go/sackschultz2014.

This contest provides you with the opportunity to pick the outcomes of games better than me, only to fail miserably.

I’ve been told by marketing that the grand prize for the national winner this season will be a custom tailgate smoker/grill, valued at $2,500. I’ve also been told that I’m not eligible. Again.

The grand prize for the local contestant is a 16GB iPad Mini. It turns out I’m not eligible for that either. But I get to keep my job.

Weekly contest winners will receive $50 gift cards from Kroger, and national winners get gifts from “Fathead.”

I checked: There is no Petrino or Grantham “Fathead.” It seemed like a natural.

Again, you can register for the contest at ajc.com/go/sackschultz2014 beginning Aug. 24. The contest begins the first week of the college football regular season and runs through Nov. 29 (the final week before the conference championship games).

Good luck. And as always: Enjoy second place.

Jeff--Are you having trouble with SACK SCHULTZ? I entered my picks for the 1st week and my win loss standings have not been entered. I have been playing the game since its inception and have never experienced this problem. Jim Mewborne  BULLDAWG62

I know I am old, as it doesn't feel like it's been a year since the last time. Bring it on.

I've never played your game, but I've always enjoyed your "Sack Schultz" columns.

They're sort of reminiscent of old Leonard.
